1. April Fools — Link Bait

April Fools is around the corner. Nothing wrong with playing a little practical prank that people would share, read, comment on, etc. You just need to think this through.

Develop a piece of content related to your niche, brand, and industry. Perhaps, a scary post titled, “We’re Going Out Of Business.” Have fun with this post. Make the article a strong 500 words, with a link pointing back to your website.

Next up, share this piece on Twitter. Have some follow-up Tweets at hand that supports the post. Really play into this fear. See how your audience reacts. The more readers who comment on it, read it, tweet it, etc the more links you get pointing back your way.

2. Sponsor An Event

Don’t reinvent the wheel. Events happen all the time. Instead of creating one, find one that you respect and sponsor it. The only catch — have the event give your brand a nice link.

Whether people click on this link or not doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. The fact you  are able to get a link from an event is huge in itself. Now every time an event pops up they will reach out to you. Take advantage of this. Develop a social media presence and ask them to share your content and / or brand name on social media. Extend the reach of your link.

3.   Give Away Free Images

One of the most needed resources on the web are images. But they come at a price. Most people use Shutterstock and the platform is not perfect. However, it’s the go-to source for images.

Here’s the thing, all of us have pretty nice cell phones that take pretty good pictures. Create a small library of images that you are willing to give away for free.

What’s in it for you? Just ask them for credit. Ask them for a link. That’s not a big deal. Most people will do that because they don’t want to get sued for not stealing images.

4.   Give Away Swag

Everyone loves FREE STUFF. It doesn’t even have to be fancy-free stuff. Just the fact that it is free makes people smile. Give away some free items that have your branding on it. But make sure to go the extra step.
